Jane Askey

Jane Askey's colourful still life work always brings a welcome breath of Spring to the gallery, at whatever time of year.

Jane likes to explore a floral subject matter, experimenting with colour and composition in response to personal objects and places visited. The resonance of objects and their associations with time and place are central to her paintings; a specific season or time of day, an object evoking a memory of someone, an unspoken narrative are layered into the paintings. Jane sees her painting as an attempt to make concrete the transience and fragility of flowers.

Much of her recent collection for Opus are in response to the Outer Hebrides specifically the beautiful island of Harris. The flowers remain the focal point but there is a greater sense of a space beyond.
